Malts and grains

Malts and Grains

To make a light palatable blended Scotch such as Hankey Bannister Blended Scotch, it is necessary to combine several whiskies from grain and malt distilleries. Here is a little explanation of these delicious spirits:

Malt Scotch Whisky

Malt Scotch Whisky is still crafted in an artisan way from malted barley and water and uses Pot Stills for the distillation process. It is matured in oak casks in Scotland for a minimum of three years to produce a flavour that is complex, smooth and intriguing.

Grain Scotch Whisky

Grain Scotch Whisky is made on a much larger scale using a constant distillation process. This enables a more efficient means of production. Grain whisky is still matured for a minimum of 3 years however, it produces a different, less intense spirit than malt whisky.

To create the perfect blend, the lighter flavoured grain whiskies are combined with the more intense malts to create a smooth, well-integrated and lighter refreshment – for easy drinking.
